A Peace Dove

With the simple task of folding a small piece of paper comes an enormous wish for the world.

Gough Graphics invites you to join us in creating a Peace Dove, and to fold inside it your own wish for the year ahead. Once finished, perhaps you might keep your Dove on your desk or in your car as a reminder of your wish. Or, why not spread its message by passing it on to a friend, or even a stranger?

Just follow the instructions below to create your Peace Dove.

STEP 1

Begin with a square piece of paper. 8 inches is a pretty good size to work with. You may choose to write a message of peace inside it before you begin folding it

Fold the paper diagonally in half, moving A to B (see Fig. 1).
STEP 2

Fold the paper diagonally in half again,
moving C to D (see Fig. 2)
STEP 3

Bring point E (upper layer only) up to point F (see Fig. 3). Then flip paper over and repeat for other side.
STEP 4

Fold point G (upper layer only) up so that it meets the middle of line H (see Fig. 4). Then unfold.
STEP 5

Partially unfold the model, pulling apart slightly along the crease from the fold in Step 4. Place your thumb along the point (G from Step 4) and push in so that this small triangle folds in on itself and is concealed inside the model.

* Turn over and repeat steps 4 and 5 for the reverse side of the model.
STEP 6

With the closed end to the left, fold over the end as shown in Fig. 6. Crease very well, then unfold.
STEP 7

Partially unfold the model (as shown in Figure 7) with the open (fold) side facing up. Refold the creases just made in Step 6 so that the end diamond fits inside with the tip sticking out to make the head. Hint: Look ahead to next step (Fig 8) to see finished head.
STEP 8

Take point I (from very top layer only) and fold it upwards along the dotted line J (see Fig. 8). Turn model over and repeat for reverse side.
STEP 9

Fold point K down so that it folds along the dotted line (see Fig 9) and crease well. Then unfold so that point K is once again extending to the far right.
STEP 10

Gently press down on the top of the tail with your index finger until it meets the main body beneath it. Then take your thumb and middle finger and fold up both sides (edge L) of the tail until they meet above the tail's center to form a "V" (see Fig 10).
STEP 11

Unfold flaps just created (edge L from Step 10) to flatten the tail, leaving a slight V coming up from the crease in the middle of the tail (see Fig 11).
FINISHED!
